* The Kingdom of Bahrain is a democratic country, reigned by His
Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa the King of the Kingdom of
Bahrain.
* Bahrain is an Islamic Arab country, and is part of the Gulf Coopera-
tion Council (GCC). It plays an active role in regional and internation-
al organizations, especially in the United Nations and its specialized
agencies, like the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO).
* It is positioned in the middle of the Arabian Gulf, near the east coast
of Saudi Arabia, and is connected to Saudi Arabia by King Fahad
Bridge (25 KM in length).
* Bahrain’s climate is hot during the summer, and mild during the
winter. The weather is pleasant from November to April, where the
temperature varies between 15-24°C.
* Bahrain is composed of many islets, and has an area of 711.9 km2.
Time wise it is ahead of Greenwich by 3 hours.
* Its population is over 700,000, and foreigners live amiably with the
citizens.
* The Kingdom acquired its name from the name of its biggest island.
It has an area of 591 km2 , and is connected by three bridges. One
leads to Muharaq (where Bahrain International Airport is located), the
second to Sitra, and the third to the industrial area which contains
several islets famous for being reserves for migrating birds.
* Arabic is the official language of the Kingdom. However, English is
widely used in most of the commercial circles.
* Islam is its official religion, however, Bahrain is distinct for its open
religious climate for it has places of worships for other religions.
* Bahrain has been affected by the many cultures it has experienced,
most prominent of which are Delmon, Tylos, and Awal. It has also
been affected by the Islamic, Persian, and Indian heritages and
cultures.
* Bahrain is a focal point where east meets west, where modern build-
ings combine beautifully with traditional houses. It clearly displays its
history and heritage, as well as its progress into the future.
* There is a large network of excellent hotels, tourist services, and a
state of the art communications network making it a tourism hotspot.
* The Kingdom of Bahrain is famous for its distinct heritage and
tourist spots like: Bahrain National Museum, Diving & Pearl Museum,
Petroleum Museum, Siyadi House, Khamees Mosque, Barbar Temple,
and others.
* Bahrain enjoys economic freedom, and a variety of sources of
income (oil - gas - petrochemicals - aluminum - fishery - agriculture -
tourism - financial services - free trade...).
