Laureates of the 2006 UNESCO – King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa
Prize for the Use of Informations and communications technologies in the
Education
The open and distance learning is one of the areas of education that grow rapidly,
and its potential impact on all distribution systems of education are largely high-
lighted by the development of information technology based on Internet.
Teacher training is also an important area where open and distance learning and
use of ICT had made a major contribution. It includes the training of teachers for
formal qualification, the additional training to improve capacities for the teaching of
subjects and topics
To encourage the research in this area, a prize has been launched in 2005, the
Unesco-King Hamad Prize which reward projects and activities that use information
and communication technologies in Education (ICT) to enhance learning, teaching
and overall educational performance. It is funded by the Kingdom of Bahrain.

and the eDegree Program in Lap-
land (Finland) are the first winners
of the 2006 UNESCO King Hamad
Bin Isa Al Khalifa. An honorable
mention was awarded to the proj-
ect Dedicated Civil Law-Teaching
Website for Arab Law Students
(Kuwait).
